Relevant Health Information Check Box Overview

This feature is used to flag secure messages that meet the following criteria:

  • The secure message is being sent by a provider or practice staff member
  • The secure message is being sent to a patient or a patient's authorized representative
  • The secure message contains relevant health information specific to the patient
    • The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) indicates the provider is the best judge of what health information should be considered relevant in this context
    • Messages with content exclusively relating to billing questions, appointment scheduling, or other administrative subjects do not qualify as relevant health information according to CMS

Using the Relevant Health Information Check Box

When this feature is enabled, you see a check box below the secure message body editor window in messages that meet the following criteria:

  • You are creating, replying to, or forwarding a secure message
  • A patient or patient's authorized representative is included as a message recipient in the To field; care team members can also be included

By default the check box is checked, indicating the secure message contains relevant health information for the patient. If it does not, deselect the check box before sending the secure message.
